In an incident that highlights police apathy in India, a martyr’s mother was asked to pay a bribe in order get her son’s stolen medals back.
The incident took place in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, where family members of late Captain Devashish Sharma found that their son’s Kirti Chakra and Virata Chakra medals were stolen in a recent robbery.
They immediately informed the police and lodged a FIR to get the robbery investigated.
But according to Captain Devashish’s mother Nirmala Devi Sharma, instead of helping the family, the police asked them for a “bribe” to investigate the matter or drop the case altogether.
The family was left appalled by police’s behavior and didn’t know what to do.
