The fourth and final Nuclear Security Summit will be held March 31-April 1, 2016, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington.
Though there has been no official announcement regarding Obama’s invitation, The Hindu states that it is almost certain that both PM Modi and Pakistan’s PM Sharif would be attending it.
The Summit would offer both the countries their first opportunity in 2016 to carry forward the bilateral ties, and an opportunity to better their strained relationship.
The year 2015 has seen some very icy lows and highs for both the countries.
Earlier this year, owing to different reasons, both the countries were on the extreme ends to each other. But, thanks to a few positive meetings over the recent past and due to PM Modi’s sudden and unexpected visit to Lahore last week, the relations at present look positive.
The Summit will continue discussion on the evolving threat and highlight steps that can be taken together to minimize the use of highly-enriched uranium, secure vulnerable materials, and deter, detect, and disrupt attempts at nuclear terrorism.
