On October 2, 2018, the country will witness the 150th birth anniversary of ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi. To make the anniversary celebrations a grand success, PM Modi has decided to seek advice from some of the most important people in the country.
For this the prime minister recently invited suggestions from leaders across party lines including Congress President Rahul Gandhi and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. On May 9, he has called for a high-level meeting to be attended by the chief ministers of various BJP-ruled states among others.
A committee has been constituted by the PM which will lay guidelines for the yearlong celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary.
As per a report:
“The CMs of BJP-ruled states will come to the meeting. The PM wants the celebrations to be held on a pan-India scale. Leaders across party lines, including UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, have also been invited to the meeting.”
The message that has been sent to various political leaders states that the celebrations will start this year and would continue in 2019 as well. Spreading Gandhi’s message to the world would be the aim of these celebrations.
According to the reports, the communication said:
“Your guidance based on your lifelong commitment to the values espoused by Gandhi, will help us to make the year of commemoration truly meaningful in every sense. The PM has written that he will be grateful for the presence of leaders invited who can share any initial thought that they might have on the subject.”
