On April 14, India celebrated the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar. On that very day Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy Minister Piyush Goyal wrote to his staff and employees of the ministry praising them for their hard work and dedication.
According to TOI, the letter is being sent to each of the 10-lakh-strong workforce under Goyal individually addressed to each. It was a simple ‘thank you’ note but was full of praise of the employees.
“Each and every one of you put in your heart and soul, committing yourself to the mission,” it reads.
In the letter Goyal points out how the government was criticized for dreaming big and moving ahead with its ambitious plans on bringing electricity to every corner of India.
“When I took over this responsibility, large parts of our great nation remained in darkness even after 67 years of Independence. This was a story of great distress… Hence, our prime minister set us the challenging goal of delivering 24×7 affordable ‘Power for All’ by 2022,” he writes in the letter.
Paying tribute to Ambedkar, Goyal writes that progress is dedicated to the 125 crore Indians on the birth anniversary of the social reformer.
The letter, which is still being delivered, reportedly carries pictures of the PM and Goyal.
It is expected that the delivery of the letters will be over by May 10, just before the Modi-led NDA government marks two years in office.
The report says that the letter is being set within an 8.5×14-inch frame so that it can be displayed.
Goyal’s ministry has actually been doing a lot of good work. Under Goyal’s watch, the ministry has been able to electrify 7000 villages, a third of its target, before deadline in March this year. Production of coal has increased significantly to such a level that India will not have to import coal in next 2-3 years.
On the solar energy front, India has shown one of the fastest growth in installed capacity leading many to believe that the per-unit cost of electricity in the country will come down.
