Almost each and every one of us, with every passing day, is getting dependent upon our phones. Sometimes it gets so hard to stay without the phone that we even start feeling its vibration even when it has no notification of any call or text. This is called a phantom phone call or text.
In a survey of college students, it has been revealed that over 80% of them had experienced it. It’s a common phenomenon but if it’s happening almost every day, then it proves that you are psychologically dependent upon your phone. Parents even complain that their kids are becoming phone addicts.
But, there is still a debate going on whether excessive use of mobile phones or similar devices can be considered an addiction or not. Some even feel that phantom phone calls and texts are signs that you are becoming a phone addict.
The survey, which was conducted on 750 undergraduates, revealed that students who had a higher score for mobile dependency (using phones to feel better or feeling irritated when staying away from the phone for a longer period) experienced phantom vibrations way more frequently. Addiction is a condition where people seek comfort through things no matter how harmful they are, however, phantom calls and text reflect the person’s dependency on phones. This may prove that you aren’t a phone addict but it also raises a question about how much are we getting dependent upon technology.
