Dogs have been holding a special place in the hearts of human beings for a long time now. And no one can deny the fact they are a ‘man’s best friend’. They are seemingly everywhere you go and are arguably the most friendly and approachable beings on this planet. Indeed, there’s no question that dogs are awesome and they have proved their loyalties towards their family in every walk of life. Well, we have come across an incident from disaster-hit Kerala where a pet dog saved the lives of his family and how he did so is truly soul-stirring.
The state of Kerala was hit by heavy rainfalls last week that triggered devastating landslide and flash floods in the area. According to the Disaster Management officials, at least 37 have been killed in the rain-related incidents over the last few days in Kerala. Out of the six districts that were the target of the rains, Idukki district became the epicenter with more than 10 deaths in the area.
However, out of many families stuck due to landslides in Kerala, a family was able to save itself from the rage of the destructing water all because of its pet dog ‘Rocky’. On August 9, Mohanan P and his family were fast asleep in their home in Kanjikuzhy village of Idukki district.
Incidentally, he woke up to the sound of his dog barking at 3 am in the morning. While Mohanan ignored the barking sounds of Rocky, the dog’s bark grew louder and he started howling.
Therefore, Mohanan’s family stepped out of the house to check on the dog, but what they came across outside shocked them to the very core. Mohanan and his family noticed the impending disaster coming towards their family. As soon as they saw the landslide, the family rushed out of their home in order to save them. It was because of the dog’s barking that the family is safe and secure now.
While their house has been destroyed by the rage of the rain, the family and their dog have been moved to the government-run relief camp nearby. Idukki district is among the areas in Kerala badly hit by the monsoon rains triggering floods and landslides since the last week.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the families of those people who have lost their loved ones in the disaster and also Rs. 4 lakh to those who have lost their houses due to the rains.
