PayTm is expected to launch messaging service for its users soon. With a user base of more than 230 million, the service provider reportedly aims to allow its users to communicate more effectively within the network. This could imply smooth communication between individual users as well as between businesses and users over the application.
It is being anticipated that the messaging feature could be launched by the end of this month, however, there has been no official announcement by any PayTm official concerning this matter as of yet.
This move of PayTm will be a reverse direction compared to some messaging applications such as Hike Messenger who recently launched its e-wallet and enabled digital payments through Unified Payment Interface (UPI).
By introducing the messaging feature, PayTm could be zooming in to create a one-stop-shop kind of platform where one can chat, transfer money, pay bills, book tickets, shop, make investments and do a lot more.
On April 5, we had reported that WhatsApp was looking for a digital payments expert in India to venture into the segment of digital payments. On June 24, we had reported that Whatsapp was in talks with State Bank of India, National Payments Corporation of India and other institutions to be able integrate a mechanism of digital payments in its mobile application.
Therefore, it is certain that this move of PayTm is likely to give tough competition to Facebook’s messaging app, WhatApp, as WhatsApp is the most used messaging app in India whereas the same is true for PayTm when it comes to digital payments through mobile.
It is interesting to note that WhatsApp’s business head, Neeraj Arora, is also one of the board members of PayTm.
