Acclaimed filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj is back with his new offering, Pataakha. It stars Sanya Malhotra, Radhika Madan, and Sunil Grover in lead roles. The movie had its premiere for the press a while ago in Mumbai. So, here I am, presenting to you the this Bollywood movie review. Let’s find out if Pataakha has enough spark to be your weekend watch.
What’s The Whole Story All About?
Based in a village of Rajasthan, Pataakha revolves around two sisters Chutki (Sanya Malhotra) and Badki (Radhika Madan), who are perennially at war with each other. After the death of their mother, their father (Vijay Raj) raised them with loads of love. Both are his dil ka tukda, as he himself says. But some unforeseen circumstances force him to marry off one of the two girls with Tharki Patel, one of the richest men in the entire village.
However, Chutki and Badki, who never intended to settle down with a middle age man, elope with their respective partners hours before the wedding. But, despite wishing not to see each other’s face ever again in life, both sisters end up marrying in the same family. What happens next forms the crux of the story.
Where’s the Pataakha?
Shayad sabkuch! From story to performances to direction, everything seems perfect in this new directorial venture by Vishal Bhardwaj. Just like all previous films of Bhardwaj, Pataakha is also a much-layered movie. However, what makes it better than the rest is the fact that all layers are so clear here that everyone can understand and connect to them.
The writing of the film is brilliant. Unlike many past movies by Bhardwaj, dialogues are very simple here. The screenplay is absolutely praiseworthy. Pataakha is undoubtedly one of the finest works of Mr. Bhardwaj. He takes the best out of his artists. This film is woven in such a manner that not only the mass audience, but the audience in urban centers will also love it.
Performances are one of the strongest highlights of the film. Everyone has done full justice to whatever role they were given to play. Sanya Malhotra as Chutki is amazing. From getting her dialect right to transforming herself physically, she has raised the bar for herself. After Dangal (2016), the audience is going to love her again. Imagining anyone else in her role will be absolutely insane.
Talking about Radhika Madan, she has also delivered a first-rate performance. Her performance is the perfect complement to Malhotra’s act. The actress leaves her mark and how!
Ace comedian Sunil Grover as Dipper is simply fantastic. He steals the limelight from every actor if he is there is any scene. Vijay Raj is also impressive and so if Saanand Verma.
Pataakha should be your first pick if you are in two minds about which film you need to watch this weekend. It offers more masala than what we are used to seeing in a Vishal Bhardwaj film. If not for anything else, watch it for exceptional performances, great storytelling, and outstanding music.
