Whether you want a new one made or want to get your existing one updated, applying for PAN Card online is just a few clicks away from getting it right at your doorstep. Here is a step by step guide on how to get your PAN Card online.
Step 1: Fill application form on the official NSDL website
You need to first log on to https://www.tin-nsdl.com/pan/pan-index.php. Here you will be asked to select out of the separate categories for Indian citizens and foreign citizens. Select the one which applies to you and click on ‘Submit’. After this, a basic online application form will appear wherein you can fill up your details as asked.
Step 2: Fill Form 49A online
The next step is to fill the Form 49A which is for Indians residing in India or abroad. As this one is a very detailed form, it is advised that you follow all instructions given on the NSDL website before filling and/or submitting this form. You also need to select Proof of Identity and Address in this form. So have a look at which documents would be considered as valid proof for the same and then select the one you are in possession of. After you have filled in all the details in this form, a confirmation screen with the data filled by you will appear on your screen. If the information is correct, confirm it and if there is any discrepancy, edit the details and submit the form again.
Step 3: Payment
The processing fee for Indians residing in India is Rs.107 and for Indians outside India is Rs.994. The payment can be made via a debit or credit card through net banking or through a demand draft in favour of ‘NSDL-PAN’ payable at Mumbai.
Step 4: Save and print acknowledgement
After completion, an acknowledgment screen with a 15 digit unique acknowledgment number, as well as, your details will be displayed. There will also be a space to affix your photograph and provide your signature. Save this document and print it.
Step 5: Affix photographs and sign the acknowledgment
After taking the printout, affix two recent photographs in the two spaces provided. One sign has to be done across the photo affixed on the left side. You need to make sure that a portion of this signature is on the photo and a portion of it on the page. Keep in mind to NOT SIGN on the photo that you affix on the right-hand side of the form. The other signature has to be done in the box given for signature.
Step 6: Documents submission for PAN Card
You can send the acknowledgement form along with photographs and signature by making payment through the demand draft or online payment confirmation, proof of identity, address and date of birth to NSDL at Income Tax PAN Services Unit, NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited, 5th Floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8,Model Colony, Near Deep Bungalow Chowk, Pune – 411 016. All of this has to reach NSDL within 15 days of making the online application. You can check the status of your application by sending SMS “NSDLPAN < space > 15 digit Acknowledgement No.” and sending it to 57575.
