Pakistan is a weird country. A few months back, Pakistan’s national airline sacrificed a goat to ward off bad luck following one of the country’s worst air disasters.
Well, they did something bizarre again.
Seven passengers traveling by Pakistan International Airlines(PIA) were forced to stand throughout the three-hour flight.
The aircraft has a seating capacity of 409 (including jump seats), but it carried 416 passengers from Karachi to Madina.
The PIA is still investigating this unusual incident as nobody is coming forward to accept its responsibility.
The senior purser (air hostess), Hina Turab, maintains that she informed the captain about the extra passengers on the flight. In return, the captain had told her to adjust those passengers as the aircraft had already taken off.
Capt Anwer Adil said,
After takeoff when I came out of cockpit, Ms Turab informed me that there were some extra people who [had been] boarded by the traffic staff. I also noticed some people were those who were categorically refused jump seats by me at the check in counter before the flight. I had already taken off and the senior purse did not inform me about extra passengers before closing the aircraft door. Therefore after takeoff immediate landing back at Karachi was not possible as it required lot of fuel dumping which was not in the interest of the airline.
In the case of an emergency, passengers without seats would not have access to oxygen. It could have been a fatal situation.
Sources believe that the obvious reason for going ahead with the journey was to save fuel cost. Plus, the PIA incurs Rs 5.6 billion loss every month.
According to the official procedures, aircraft should be brought back to the terminal in such situations, and then allowed to resume the flight. This incident certainly proves that the PIA disrespects its own protocol, which is quite shameful.
Pakistan: Change but no change.
No hopes either.
