Pakistan’s International Court of Justice lawyer, Khawar Qureshi, has claimed that Kulbhushan Jadhav can never be released or acquitted by the international court.

Qureshi has held that the case of Jadhav is a very clear one and India is wrongly claiming a victory in this case. The UK-based lawyer told reporters that a detailed press statement will soon be issued by the Foreign Office.

Pakistan’s military court sentenced 46-year-old Kulbhushan Jadhav to death for his “involvement in espionage and sabotage activities” against Pakistan. However, the ICJ stayed Jadhav’s execution earlier this month, following which Qureshi was strongly criticized for not handling the case properly at the international court.

A leading Pakistan daily reports that , a meeting was held between the Pakistani Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor, Sartaj Aziz, Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf Ali, Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua and advocate Khawar Qureshi in which the matter over Jadhav’s case at the ICJ was discussed.

The Nation quotes Sartaj Aziz saying,

Our lawyer did well in the case. We will now send a new team to present Pakistan’s stance vigorously in the case. The ICJ has clearly mentioned that the provisional measures are without prejudice to the final determination of the merits and jurisdiction of the case. These measures have no bearing whatsoever on the final decision.

After the meeting, Khawar Qureshi said that people should stop speculating after the initial order by the ICJ as it is not going to affect the case. While speaking to the media, Qureshi said,

You are making something out of nothing. He is going nowhere. The ICJ will never acquit him. We have a solid case (of terrorism) against him. Pakistan’s Foreign Office will update you. This case needs to be handled responsibly by the media.
