Chandu Babulal Chavan, the Indian soldier who accidently crossed the line of control on September 29 last year, is finally back to India via the Wagah border checkpost.
As a goodwill gesture from Pakistan, Chandu Babulal Chavan has been returned to India by the Pakistan Army. The Army claimed that Chandu was caught on the day of the surgical strike by India. Though, the Pakistan Army has made some serious claims that Chandu deserted his post on his own after being ill-treated by his superior officers.
MoS Defence, Subhash Bhamre, had expressed hope earlier while talking about Chandu’s return. He said,
The very next day after the surgical strikes, Chandu had inadvertently crossed the LoC to Pakistani side. The government, the DGMO and MEA are in contact with Pakistan since then through proper channel. Initial response from Pakistan was not positive but the latest response inspires hope.
A press statement from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations reads that Chandu willfully crossed the LoC.

Pakistan’s foreign ministry press release further added…
The decision of the government of Pakistan to return the Indian soldier is based on humanitarian grounds and the commitment to ensure peace and tranquility at the LoC and the Working Boundary. Despite Indian belligerence, Pakistan believes in peaceful neighbourhood and rejects all actions aimed at undermining regional peace and security.
Chandu from Maharashtra’s Dhule is a soldier from 37 Rashtriya Rifles. This step taken by Pakistan is an attempt to show that they too want to maintain peace among both the nations.
