Child abuse is one thing that has plagued not just India but many other parts of the world. Moreover, the alarming rate at which it is rising is very shocking. The way innocent children are kidnapped, raped and murdered has sent panic waves across the world. And this is not it. Sometimes, children are being victimized by a family member, neighbor or relative for years together and aren’t even able to share their pain with their family or well wishers.
One tragic incident of a child being kidnapped, raped and brutally murdered happened recently in Pakistan. 7-year-old Zainab was raped brutally and then strangled to death. Her dead body was found in a heap of garbage 5 days after she went missing. Now, more than 2 weeks after her ruthless assault and murder, Pakistan’s police has arrested the culprit, Imran, a serial killer who has killed seven other girls as well.
Meanwhile, there have been widespread protests and unrest in Pakistan over the issue, including heated discussions on social media. Amidst the hundreds of tweets pointing to Zainab’s murder and talking about the issue of child rapes in general were some disturbing tweets coming from a Pakistani journalist Fasih Ahmed. In response to a tweet by Benazir Shah, another journo from Pakistan, Ahmed made an absolutely insensitive statement about Zainab’s rapist commenting about his sexuality, putting his crime aside.
Take a look at the screenshot of Benazir Shah’s tweet and Faisal Ahmed’s reply to it:
When another Twitter user pointed out the insensitive comment by Faisal, he replied to it by saying that rape is a subjective matter and that rape by Tom Cruise is everyone’s dream come true. The tweet seems to have been taken down by the journo now but you can have a look at its screenshot below:
As if he hadn’t shown enough of disgrace yet, he posted a series of nonsensical tweets about child sexual abuse. Take a look at his tweets below:
Did he just say that it doesn’t matter?
Moreover, he left no scope for people to give him some benefit of doubt by imagining that he couldn’t have tweeted all of this, he tweeted to inform Twitter that his account hadn’t been hacked.
His insensitivity left people appalled and they started bashing him for his egregious comments. Take a look at Twitter’s reactions below:
This issue can’t be taken lightly!
Seriously! Shame on him.
The point is- It isn’t normal.
After facing Twitter’s rage, he came up with another series of tweets, a day after he had made all the notorious statements about child abuse and Zainab’s rape and murder. Take a look at those below:
Earlier he had said that Zainab wasn’t a watershed moment, and now this:
But does he actually mean it?
It is extremely shameful of him making ridiculous statements first and then try to justify them as coming out of anger! Perhaps it was the flak coming from people that made him do that! Don’t you think so? Share your views with us in comments!
