Looks like, Pakistan ODI and T20I captain, Sarfraz Ahmed was not getting enough of attention from the media and this is the reason why he has come up with a rather bizarre and controversial claim to gain the limelight.
The wicket-keeper batsman has claimed that Team India is afraid of Pakistan and fears to face them on the cricket field. He said,
It’s always Pakistan who have come forward to play with India and they should respond positively. Perhaps India are afraid of facing Pakistan which is why they don’t play against us. It’s always fun to play in a match against India. We will try to win against India in the Champions Trophy but the main thing is for the team to fight for success against all teams.
He further added,
I have not played IPL so don’t know much about it but if I look at how PSL has been organised, then I am pleased to say that it’s improving with every edition. Our PSL champions should play champions from other leagues like IPL and I am sure they will offer a good challenge to those teams.
However, it’ pretty clear from the records that Pakistan ODI and T20I captain, Sarfraz Ahmed’s claims are baseless. Team India has won six of their last seven matches against Pakistan across all formats. Under Anil Kumble’s captaincy back in 2007, the Indians clinched the previous Test series (1-0 at home) that they played against their bitter rivals.
As per the current ICC rankings, Team India is rated 1, 4, and 2 in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is respectively while their Pakistan is rated at 5, 8 and 6 in the corresponding rankings.
Due to political clashes between the two countries and frequent incidents along the LOC, the cricket ties between India and Pakistan were pushed backward. However, India and Pakistan will soon be facing each other on the cricket field in a couple of months. It has been scheduled and the two Asian teams will be meeting each other in the 2017 Champions Trophy on June 4th in Edgbaston, Birmingham.
It was Sarfaraz’s attempt to grab the eyeballs with his baseless claims. His claims will be proved nonsensical again in the upcoming Champions Trophy encounter.
Ishant Sharma, do you think Sarfraz Ahmed’s claims makes any sense?
