Former Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chief Pahlaj Nihalani is again in news, not because of his censorship skills but he is furious at the censor board for the cuts they have suggested in his upcoming movie. Can you see the irony here? The man who used to cut scenes and create controversy is now facing the same wrath. In his  upcoming movie is Rangeela Raja starring Govinda, the board has suggested 20 cuts. For this Nihalani has filed a complaint in Bombay High Court against the same. The court has asked the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal to hear the plea.

Referring to the censorship of one of the dialogues in the movie, an irked Nihalani asked if words like “fu*k” are more distasteful or a line like tu mujhe aisa swadisht khana khila chuki hai.

The line has been allegedly said after a rape scene in the movie. Talking to a media house he said:

“I really want to know which is more distasteful. Also, can anyone explain to me how Stree, which discussed masturbation, got a U/A?.”

On November 21, 2018, the CBFC filed an affidavit in HC, stating the board had taken strong objection to how Rangeela Raja glorifies violence and objectified women through the actions of its hero, “who is shown as having no repentance of his actions and crimes, including rape, adultery and treating women as a commodity for his sensual pleasures.”

Clarifying his stand Pahlaj made a statement:

“I haven’t shown any rape act. Whatever is shown is only symbolic. I am aware of the Censor Board guidelines. I was the Chairman before Prasoon Joshi, wasn’t I? If the rape act has not been shown, this particular dialogue cannot be cut. Tell me, why I should change my storyline?”

Here is the trailer of the movie.

Recently, Nihalani and his team had arranged a press conference where Govinda had spoken in length about how according to him, his films have been stopped from being released for many years.

Govinda also made comments about the issues with the release of his movies.

“Every time I do a movie, I don’t get a platform as some of my movies don’t even make it and that is very unfair to a senior actor like me. I don’t know who is doing this, but there is definitely someone who doesn’t want me to be in the center again.”

Nihalani is adamant at not releasing Rangeela Raja with the suggested cuts. Now it will be seen if the final decision will be in his favor or not. You stay tuned for the latest updates.
