‘Padmavat’ is all set for release on January 25 in almost all parts of the country excluding states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, amidst the chaos and drama caused by Shri Rajput Karni Sena. Though the film has got a clean chit from CBFC and later from the Supreme Court, the Rajput community and Karni Sena believe that the film is based on distorted facts and has hurt the sentiments of people.
Parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and various other regions in North India are more vulnerable to violence and people especially the owners of cinema halls are facing the brunt of the skirmishes between the filmmakers and Karni Sena goons.
The law and order situation is getting worse as the time for the film’s release is getting near.
It is a lesser known fact that the film is based loosely on Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s ‘masnavi’ (spiritual couplet), which was penned down in the 1540s. Although the dates of Jayasi’s birth and death remain largely unsettled, the poet is believed to be born in a small village of Uttar Pradesh known as Jayasi. It is also believed that CM Yogi Adityanath has a strong connection to this place.
It is known that Yogi’s guru Gorakhnath was also born in Jayasi. However, after Yogi became the chief minister of UP, people expected him to visit Jayasi, a village that is now in a bad condition.
People of the village are now demanding a share from the films’ earnings so that the works related to the restoration of the birthplace and research institute of the poet can be carried out.
