The making and release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmaavat has been mired in controversies. Karni Sena and their violent protests made the makers of the film wait a lot before releasing their work. After so much criticism, the makers and the cast of the film is finally getting their due credit. The film is now in the theatres, running successfully and has already crossed the Rs 200 crore mark. Sadly, the film is yet to be released in Rajasthan because of the chaos created by Karni Sena.
However, now when the Sena has accepted that Bhansali has glorified Rajputs via ‘Padmaavat’, the film will finally be released in Rajasthan. But, there is a catch! The film will be released in Rajasthan not for the common public but just for four selected people.
Not everyone in Rajasthan will get the privilege to watch ‘Padmaavat’. As per the directives give by the Rajasthan High Court, the movie will be screened in Jodhpur for high court judge Sandeep Mehta and other judicial staff under high security. There will be tight security while they will be watching the film.
Initially, an FIR was registered against Sanjay Leela Bhansali by Virendra Singh and Nagpal Singh claiming that in the movie the historical facts have been distorted and Rani Padmavati has been shown under a bad light. When Bhansali challenged the FIR, the High Court asked the officials for further investigation putting a stay on the FIR. The screening will be held for judicial staff following Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s petition to reject the FIR against the movie.
