Public Accounts Committee of Maharashtra state has raised questions on the concession being given to former President, Pratibha Patil’s daughter’s trust, Maharashtra Mahila Udyam Trust.
The PAC has now pulled in the former-Congress led government for not taking any action the trust being run by Jyoti Rathore despite several norm violations. The PAC also pointed out that no action was taken by the government against the trust which had failed to construct a school building for which the government had granted land.
The PAC report read,
In 2009, the trust was given 47,300 sqm land for construction of buildings for primary and secondary school… in Pune district. Another 32,000 sqm land was given for playground with an annual rent of Rs 1. However, the trust did not deposit the requisite 25 per cent amount of the capital expenditure in the bank.
The PAC further noted that,
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) had said in its report that as the project cost was Rs 13.44 crore, Rs 3.36 crore should have been deposited in the trust’s bank account, while the account had only Rs 83 lakh.
Also, a revenue official has informed PAC that the project cost was around Rs.8 crore while the trust bank account had only Rs. 2.54 crore. The committee also asked why the land was not taken back despite several violations and that while the original plan mentioned that the work will be completed by 2012, the work still had not begun in mid-2017.
In 2009, land worth Rs. 19 crore was given to Jyoti Rathore’s trust for the construct of primary and secondary schools in Jambhe in the Mulshi taluka near the Mumbai-Pune highway.
