Director Hansal Mehta and actor Rajkummar Rao have released the trailer of their much-awaited movie Omerta. Mehta’s gritty thriller is based on British-Pakistani terrorist Omar Saeed Sheikh. The movie is a journey of an evil mind and is woven around 9/11 World Trade Center attacks, 26/11 terror attacks, and the brutal beheading of American journalist Daniel Pearl.
He believes the idea behind making an “uncomfortable film” is to make the audience face the truth.
The film’s trailer is powerful enough to fill you with hate, and you will instantly think about the rise in terrorist activities in India and around the world. Actor Rajkummar Rao plays an anti-hero for the first time. The movie has been shot in real locations across London and India while recreating Pakistan and Afghanistan.
According to Mehta, the shock value is the USP of the film.
“I want to leave the viewer with a sense of awe, disgust, hate, surprise and let them examine the ramifications of these events on their lives today,” said the Shahid director as per a report.
“Omerta takes a look at this complex paradox of a man called Omar Saeed Sheikh. It was a difficult subject to choose and a challenge to make. However, with an actor like Rajkummar, no challenge seems insurmountable and this was the ideal film to hurtle us out of our comfort zone to make something that is uncomfortable,” he added further.
Mehta further stated that Omerta is his most researched film ever and it wasn’t easy at all to make this film.
When the film’s protagonist Rao was asked about his perspective on the film, he clearly contended that a moment of shock and silence will be seen as the film would end.
Here is the trailer for the film.
“Omerta” will hit the theatres on April 20th this year.
