A Tamil Nadu revenue department officer, S Kavitha, was caught playing candy crush saga on a cellphone during a grievance meeting held for farmers on Friday, reports NDTV.

The meeting, which was attended by dozens of farmers, saw the officer immersed in the game on her cellphone, which was kept carefully below the desk level.

She only switched off her phone when the game ended.

Kavitha, who is attached to a cooperative sugar factory in Harur area, was seen seated next to District Collector K Vivekanandan, who apparently did not notice anything amiss.

After the video went viral on social media, agitated farmers complained about the same and demanded stringent action against her.

The Collector has ordered a probe into the incident. He said:

“We’ve asked for an explanation by the officer and we will forward it to the Public Department, which can take action if need be.”

Data from the National Crime Records Bureau reveal that this year 68 farmers had committed suicide in the state.

Last year, 827 farm labourers in the drought-prone region took their own lives.

State Secretary of the CPI(M), G Ramakrishnan, said that this reflects the callous attitude of the Officer towards farmers.
