Offer Hungry Youth 50 Percent Discount In Restaurants And They’ll Vote

Published on 8 March, 2014 at 4:00 am By

No, that’s not an exaggerated claim; it is a scheme introduced in Amritsar targeting the youth under which first time voters would get 50 percent discount in the top hotels and restaurants of the city if they can show the voter’s symbol – ink mark on finger. DC Ravi Bhagat will soon be holding meetings with hotel and restaurant owners for this purpose.

There is another scheme for those who are first time voters – an appreciation certificate. For those who have not yet visited their nearest polling booth, this is the opportunity to get certified.

There were 12,13,322 voters in 2009 in the city of Amritsar. Today it stands at 14,40,956. If the scheme is able to entice enough young and first time voters to the poll booth, the authorities in Amritsar should be applauded for supporting democracy.
