Dance is the form of art which connects the world regardless of language and cultural barriers. As much as we have accepted Western dance forms in our culture, many Indian dances are making people groove around the world. After all, dance can help express an array of human emotions. So, after Bhangra and Bollywood style dance, it is Odisha’s folk dance Sambhalpuri to make a mark on a foreign land.
Odisha’s internationally acclaimed dancer, Saswat Joshi, performed Odisha’s Sambalpuri folk dance in front of the Eiffel Tower along with a dance troupe on May 26. The performance was part of the Odisha Dance Week celebration.
Saswat trained dancers during a week-long workshop in France. The colorful costumes and happy faces tell the story of a beautiful experience dancing in front of the symbol of love. The female lead of the group, Mahina Khanum, thanked Joshi for the show on Facebook:
