New Delhi witnessed another horrific incident bordering on racism as a Nigeria national was badly beaten in the capital’s Malviya Nagar locality after the victim was allegedly caught red handed for theft. The violence left the man bleeding profusely and needed to be taken to hospital.
According to the house owner Krishna Kumar’s statement to the police, he woke up to the sound of his cupboard being opened. He immediately raised an alarm. The thief tried to flee from the main gate, but was intercepted by Kumar’s brothers – Prem Chand and Madan Singh. Locals, who had gathered by then, tied the man up and started beating him.
Three videos, out on social media, show the man bleeding and begging for mercy. The crowd around the victim are seen hitting the man again and again, with his pleas for forgiveness falling on deaf ears.
According to Kumar’s daughter Ankita:
He entered the house from the terrace on the fourth floor. He had a bag with some tools. He came into my father’s bedroom and was looking for money, when my father woke up.
Eyewitnesses say that the assault on the alleged thief went on for about an hour, until the police arrived. Here’s the video of the incident:
