NIA officer Tanzil Ahmad’s wife, Farzana Khatoon (40), succumbed to injuries on April 13 at AIIMS.
She was injured in the April 3 shooting in which her husband was killed. She was admitted to AIIMS just two days ago from Fortis Hospital. She passed away at 10.45 am.
The NIA condoled her death in a statement. The NIA said that her last rites will take place at the Jamia Millia Islamia’s burial ground at around 6 pm today.
Two of the accused, Reyan and Zainul, were arrested by the police in Bareilly yesterday and presented before the media.
Reyan is the nephew of Ahmad’s brother-in-law. The police stated yesterday that the killing was borne out of a domestic dispute.
The main accused in the case, Munir, is still on the run.
A reward of Rs.2 lakh has been announced on information leading to Munir’s arrest.
On April 3, Ahmad was returning with his wife and two children, aged 14 and 11, from a wedding in Bijnor in a car. They were followed by the accused on a motorcycle which overtook the car near Sahaspur village.
The accused shot at Ahmad 21 times, which also left Farzana injured. The children escaped unhurt.
Ahmad was one of the officers investigating the terror attack on the Pathankot air force base. He was also involved in investigations related to the Indian Mujahideen.
The police had earlier ruled out the possibility of a terror angle.
