A week ago, Chief minister Adityanath Yogi had asked senior officials to chalk out proper guidelines for Anti-Romeo squads to ensure that boys and girls hanging out together with consent are not harassed.
A bizarre incident happened on March 22, which clearly proves that no guidelines are being followed. The Anti-Romeo squad shaved a boy’s head, only because he was hanging out with a woman friend, and three policemen watched the show.
Kasim Khan, 21, was dropping his batchmate(female friend) home in Shahjahanpur, UP, when they were stopped by a group of men.
Kasim, in his statement, said,
The men asked our names and separated us. My friend was asked to leave as they huddled around me. Then, they tied my hands behind my back with a plastic string and started beating me. The men punched and kicked me and later called a barber to shave off my head. I asked them what my mistake was and pleaded for mercy but they didn’t listen.
SP K V Singh said, “The residents of South City colony, Shahjahanpur, called police on finding a youth and a girl roaming around together.”
One of the constables recorded the incident on his mobile phone camera, and later he circulated on it WhatsApp. Hence, the disturbing incident came to light.
The three policemen, who were present at the time of the incident, have been suspended.
SP KV Singh stated,
The three constables — Suhel Ahmed, Layek Ahmed and Sonpal — have been put under suspension. Besides, an inquiry has been ordered against the in-charge of Azizganj police post K K Chaudhary who allegedly tried to hush up the matter.
