Changing the rules of dowry practice, a bride’s father just gave a ‘neem plant’ as a gift to groom’s family.
The bride’s father work as a labourer and told the groom family that he had nothing to give them as dowry except for a neem plant. The groom’s family were very happy with the gesture.
Bride Shakuntla Kabra said that the gesture has sent a message in the society, where women are subjected to harassment due to demand of dowry.
Shakuntla, who has studied till class 9th, told TOI, “I help people of the village in filling their forms of various government schemes. Dowry is a social malice and I am against such practice. I am very proud of my father that he has given me a plant as dowry.”
The marriage took place in Dhakarkheri village in Kota district.
