Naseeruddin Shah is one of the finest actors of the present film industry. Over the years, he has presented us with entertaining and thoughtful movies that are etched in our hearts. He is also someone who never steps back from raising his voice regarding social and political issues in India. Numerous times he was slammed because he voiced his anxieties that portray contemporary India. Despite questioning him at such instances, the fact cannot be denied that his words speak volume about the reality.
In a recent peace initiative chronicling hate crimes in the country called Karwan-e-Mohabbat, Naseeruddin Shah voiced his concern about the situation in our country.
The concerns were voiced on the backdrop of recent mob lynching happening in the country. Ironically, in our country the life of a cow is valuable than that of a human and the recent instances of fanaticism proves the same.
He said that his kids are raised as human rather than Hindu or Muslim. Naseeruddin Shah is a follower of Islam while his wife Ratna Shah is born in a Hindu family. According to the actor, this has never worked as a barrier between them. Also, their children connect more with being human than religious beings. He revealed that his worry lies in the fact that if they will be surrounded by a crowd and asked about their religion then they will not have anything to say.
“I feel anxious for my children because tomorrow if a mob surrounds them and asks, ‘Are you a Hindu or a Muslim?’, they will have no answer.” They (his children) do not have a religion. I had received a religious education as a child. Ratna (his wife who is a Hindu) belongs to a liberal household, so she had received none.”
Just to refresh your memory, inspector Subodh Kumar Singh was recently killed by mob violence. The outrage sparked out over an alleged cow slaughter case in Bulandshahr. Netizens, however, were quick to slam him and asked him to go out of the nation. Here are some of their comments.
He may simply shift to Pakistan or Middle East for better safety. But, for God sake, stop fooling India anymore.

Such a great actor. Slipped in to the skin of his character of Gulfam Hasan so beautifully that could never come out of it. Once a Gulfam Hasan, always a Gulfam Hasan. Respect.

However, there were some who saw his point and supported him too:

D Bhatkt media instead of seriously looking into d matter of insecurity & fear of life for muslims, they r blaming Shah for spreading rumour & termed it a ‘plotting’ for demeaning PM Modi. He rightly said dat a life of a cow, is dearer than human’s.

Now bhakts will come with “go to Pakistan” comments proving him absolutely right.

Are the netizens right to slam Naseeruddin Shah? While it can be noted that his comments voice concern but fearing about his family is a bit hypocritical. Being one of the topmost actors in the nation who enjoys a certain kind of protection, the danger of his family is certainly not imminent.
