Mumbai University may soon have a second address, and that address would be located thousands of kilometers away from India.
The 160-year-old University will have a campus in the United States. It would be the first time for the University to have a campus anywhere outside Mumbai.
According to TOI, MU vice chancellor Sanjay Deshmukh has said that three possible sites have been identified for the US campus.
Deshmukh was recently on a trip to the US where he met Indian Americans and hosted fundraisers.
The University is looking at the prospect of getting a building located on the 24th Street in Manhattan. Another otion is purchasing a university in Houston, Texas and convert it to MU’s campus.
Ohio’s University of Akron is the last option. The University has itself offered a building to house the US campus of Mumbai University.
Deshmukh said that Mumbai University is “creating history”.
The main advantage of having a campus in the US will be tie-ups with foreign universities. Courses offered in the US campus will include international politics, leadership and life coaching.
The report says that Akron University’s offer appears to be more realizable. A team from the University will be visiting Mumbai in May.
