Mehbooba Mufti, president of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said that International Women’s Day should be aimed at changing the behaviour of the society towards women.
“It should be ensured that only limit on them is their talent, creativity not their gender,” she said.

The PDP president talked about the role and the responsibility of the family and society to provide a conductive atmosphere to the girl child.
Calling for the joint efforts to achieve the desired objective of securing the future of the girl child, Mehbooba said that focus should be on empowering women by providing them better education, healthcare and parity.
She termed the women as harbingers of peace and said if we want to bring peace in the world, we have to first create a peaceful atmosphere for them in their homes.
Talking about the conflict in the valley, she said that women suffer heavily from the repercussions of the conflict. She said:
“In our State women have underwent enormous tragedies because of the conflict.”
Talking about the PDP-BJP coalition government headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, she said they introduced some path-breaking women welfare schemes including Laadli Beti, Aasra and Marriage Assistance in the state to address the concerns of the girl child.
