Indian Railways lately organized a competition for the most beautiful railway station in the country. The Ministry of Railways received 62 entries from 11 Zonal Railways across the country to participate in the competition. A committee including the senior railway official was established by the ministry to review these entries.
The contest was organized in order to encourage the cleanliness of the railway stations which will in turn boost tourism and generate employment in the various railway zones.
Recently, the results were announced and the list of the winners will make you praise the efforts of the people in the beautification of the stations.
The first prize for the ‘Most Beautiful’ station in India was bagged by the Chandrapur Railway Station and the Balharshah Railway Station in Maharashtra.

With mesmerizing paintings and skillful installations at both the stations, they have been felicitated by Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railways in the country.
The ministry also awarded Madurai Railway Station under the Southern Railways and the Madhubani Railways under the East Central Railways, the second prize.
Madurai station depicts the local cultures of Tamil Nadu on its walls and Madhubani paintings have been drawn on Madhubani station to create awareness about the importance of the art form in Bihar state. For the initiative, approximately, 9,414 square feet area of the station walls has been embellished with more than 160 Madhubani paintings.
Interestingly, the third prize was shared between three Indian railway stations including, Securandarabad Station in Telangana, Gandhidham Station in Gujarat and Kota station in Rajasthan.
Decorated with Cheriyal art works, Secundarabad station is a treat to sore eyes after a long journey. As for the Kota Railway station, the walls are painted with unique Kota-Bundi style paintings that will remind the passengers about the royal past and heritage of Rajasthan.
The Indian Railways has fixed the prize money to be Rs. 10 lakh for first rank holder, Rs. 5 lakh for second rank holder and Rs. 3 lakh for third rank holder.
