India is a land of culture and festivals. With people from different religious communities living together in one country, India has a lot of special days in the form of festivities.
On Sunday, the women of India observed Karwa Chauth — a festival celebrated by Hindus in which women fast all day and pray for long life and good health of their husband, and conclude the fast by looking at the moon. But this year women in many parts of the country were disappointed as the moon could not be seen owing to cloudy weather. Because of the non-visibility of moon, many women concluded their fast by looking at pictures and videos of moon.
Some women watched the moon on live video calls with their friends or family from a place where it was visible. A report by Nai Duniya states Pandit Manish Sharma from Ujjain saying that Karwa Chauth fast can be concluded by watching video or picture of moon in places it is not visible.
Apart from adopting different ways to see the moon, couples did a host of unique things to celebrate the special day. Interesting updates on karwa chauth have come from Indore in Madhya Pradesh, where hundreds of women offered their prayers and concluded their fast in groups. On this occasion, while praying for the long life and good health of their husband, some women exchanged unique but truly valuable gifts with their husbands.
Around 301 couples participated in karwa chauth celebrations organized by the Pashupatinath Porwal Social Group in Indore. At the event, women gifted helmets to their husband and took the promise of following traffic rules so that they can be safe while driving a two-wheeler.
At another group event, husbands made promises of honoring the women and protecting their daughters. While at other events in the city observing the festival, couples pledged for conservation of rivers. About 12 men from different districts of Allahabad took inspiration from Bollywood film ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ and gifted toilets to their wives.
