Performance, it appears, is the favourite word of some of PM Narendra Modi’s ministers. Take for example Power Minister Piyush Goyal.
The Power Ministry has electrified 7,008 villages beating the target deadline by an entire week.
The target was for 7,000 electrified villages by March 31, 2016. It is a part of the PM’s massive rural electrification drive across the country under which 18,452 villages will get power by May 2018.
An elated Goyal posted this message on Facebook on the occasion of Holi:
The project, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna, was launched in 2015, with an outlay of Rs.760 billion.
The Union Minister has said that the target might be achieved by 2017 itself. The scheme is being pursued on a war footing and is bringing power to villages, some of which have been living in the light of lanterns since independence.
