Senior BJP leader and urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he is God’s gift to India and a messiah for the poor.
A the party’s national executive meeting on March 20, he said:
“Modi is a god’s gift for India. He is the messiah of the poor. He inherited challenges in each and every sector. He is steering clear of them.”
Naidu also highlighted Modi’s pro-farmers scheme, help given to Nepal post-earthquake, renewing India-Afghanistan ties, his visit to Pakistan for dialogue and such.
Though the party has hailed its members from time tot time, it is probably the first time that someone has been called ‘God’s gift’.
While moving the political resolution, Naidu also mentioned that Modi has over 18 million Twitter followers and 32 million Facebook likes, and his popularity has risen to the new level.
He also added about his wax statue which will be unveiled in London’s Madame Tussauds museum.
A note released by Naidu’s office said:
“Narendra Modi is ‘Modifier of Developing India’. He is a decisive leader, Nationalist politician and provides progressive governance.”
However, when home minister Rajnath Singh was asked about the reaction of BJP members to Nadu’s remarks, he said, “I have not heard Naiduji’s speech.”
The resolution passed by the party referred ‘nationalism’ as its ideology.
