When the entire country was busy celebrating the birthday of prime minister with much fanfare, Uttar Pradesh minister Swatantra Dev Singh did something that would definitely please Narendra Modi.
Unlike other ministers and celebrities, whose association with the prime minister’s ambitious ‘Swacch Bharat Abhiyan’ project is limited to posing with brooms before shutterbugs, Singh took it on himself to clean an entire public bathroom, even when there was no reporter to cover the incident.
The Uttar Pradesh Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Transport & Protocol, who is also the Minister of State for Power, was in Mirzapur on Saturday to inspect the main bus terminus of the district. During the inspection, he was carefully scrutinizing every nook and corner of the bus stand till he reached the public toilet situated within the bus terminus.
Put off by the acrid stench emitting from the toilet, he immediately ordered his men to bring him a bucket of water and phenol, while he started cleaning the toilet with a piece of cloth. Furthermore, instead of relegating the responsibility of cleaning the toilet to the maintenance staff of the bus terminus, he kept at it until the entire bathroom was perfectly cleaned.
However, this is not the first time that Singh has done something like this. He had associated himself with odd jobs like this previously also.
In this particular endeavor, he was helped by local BJP MLA Ramashankar Singh. After cleaning the toilet, the state minister of power instructed the management committee as well as the workers of the bus terminus to keep the entire area free of filth on a daily basis. He also inquired about the amenities extended to the passengers traveling from the bus terminus.
Although this episode took place on the eve of the PM’s birthday, the entire country applauded the deeds of this minister, upholding the same as the perfect birthday gift for Narendra Modi.
