Andhra Pradesh’s minister son was arrested on March 6 for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in Hyderabad.
Ravela Susheel, son of the Telugu Desam Party leader and social justice minister Ravela Kishore Babu, surrendered before the police after a case was registered against him and his driver M Ramesh.
The arrest comes after outrage over reported police inaction. Earlier police had registered FIR against the driver but let off Susheel.
The complainant– a teacher– alleged that Susheel and Ramesh followed her, passed lewd comments and tried to pull her into the car on March 3.
After she raised alram, her husband, who was nearby, and locals gathered and beat up Susheel and his driver.
However, Susheel denied any such act. But, the CCTV footage showed a white SUV with a VIP sticker closely following the woman walking on Road no 13 in Banjara Hills where the incident happened.
The minister said that he would not interfere in police proceedings.
“If the crime took place or not would be revealed through the police probe. I would not support such acts committed by anyone. I have faith in the constitution and the law. We would not interfere in the case,” said Kishore Babu.
