Madhya Pradesh Minister Kusum Mehdele, has landed herself into the controversy by kicking away a boy who begged on his knees and asked for a rupee.
The minister, who holds the animal husbandry portfolio, was in Panna on the occasion of Madhya Pradesh foundation day, and was visiting a bus stand for a cleanliness drive when the incident happened.
A video footage aired by news channels show Mehdele kicking the teenager, who had apparently blocked her way as she was moving towards her official car in Panna.
Talking to The Indian Express, the minister completely denied the incident. She said:
“Am I mad? Have I lost my head? Why would a minister use legs and hands.”
She also asked to reveal the name of boy and present him before her. The incident created a sensation, but no one intervened till some officials came and dragged the boy away.
In its reaction, the Congress demanded the sacking of Mehdele.
State party spokesman K.K. Mishra said that she has no right in her position for “even one minute more.”
The Aam Aadmi Party too termed the conduct of the minister stemmed from arrogance internalised by the ruling BJP.
The minister had been in the headlines for different reasons in the past. She had earlier stated that farmers don’t commit suicide even after the death of their sons so how come they do so after crop loss.
