You can see the major cast members and some members of the crew in the photo. Of course, there’s a beaming Michael Fassbender!
Fassbender plays the protagonist – the dual roles of Aguilar, a 15th century Spanish Assassin, and his present day descendant Callum Lynch.
This 20th Century Fox film has a storyline distinct from the plotline of the video game franchise. For instance, no assassin in the video game franchise is Spanish.
We do not know yet how the film, if at all it would, connect itself to the original storyline of the games and the principal character of Desmond Miles.
Spain in the 15th century was divided into major kingdoms of Granada, Aragon, Castile and Navara. Depending on which period of the century the film is set, Fassbender’s Aguilar can be seen fighting for or against any of the kingdoms.
Castile of Spain could be a possible setting for this semi-period film due to its historical significance and the fact that each and every character killed in the series is a real historical figure.
This was the period before Spain ventured out to the sea and participated in the great exploration of the world.
In the film Callum Lynch realises he has a direct connection to the secret Assassins’ society almost the same way as Desmond Miles in the game.
Genetic memories allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar. With skills of the assassin order Aguilar takes on the oppressive Knights Templar both in the past and in the present day.
The film also stars Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons in pivotal roles. It is directed by Justin Kurzel.
