It needs ample guts to break the social stereotypes and chose the path your heart desire. No one knows it better than these people who decided to go through sex reassignment surgeries. These are the brave ones who were born as men but always knew where their heart lies. Finally, they broke the shackles of social construct to live their lives as women. They went through sex reassignment surgeries to embrace their true self. Today we present you the story of men who became women after sex change surgery.
While some people in India accept this notion of sexuality with an open mind there are others who cringe away in disgust. However, the changing picture of the society is clear from the fact that two Indian states are offering to cover the cost of sex reassignment surgeries. The states are Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
1. Gaurav Arora
Tall and toned, this is what caught everyone’s attention when Gaurav Arora appeared on the reality TV show Splitsvilla. His popularity went through the roofs and he started getting many modeling assignments. He, however, faced walls of hurdles when he came out as a transgender. Soon he expressed his desire to undergo a sex reassignment surgery and at that time he was a participant in another reality show, India’s Next Top Model. Not surprisingly, he was dropped from the show and faced trolling from the haters. Like a sassy queen, she came back in her new avatar – Gauri. Absolutely dazzling, she donned a sexy bikini to return to the same modeling reality show.
2. Bobby Darling
Long before appearing as a Bigg Boss contestant, Bobby Darling was a part of the world of films. Sadly, she was stuck doing stereotypical and condescending homosexual roles. Born in Mumbai, she came out as a transgender model when India was more stringent in terms of accepting anyone from the LGBTQ community. Later she got married but her husband turned out to be an abusive sadist. After a prolonged conflict, he was arrested by the police.
3. Nikki Chawla
Filled with drama, action, and thrill the journey of this transgender model is no less than a Hindi movie plot. Born in a Punjabi family, she was a boy at the birth and was always told that her ‘feelings’ about being a woman aren’t ‘real’. Naturally, that was the starting point of her struggle. At the age of 17 she started her hormone treatment and finally 5 years later she went through the sex change surgery. Initially, her parents were against her but she convinced them with persistence. She is one of those men who became women after sex change surgery.
She was born as a man but right from the tender age of 9, she was quite sure about her sexuality. Initially, she came out to her mom as a homosexual. Later, she went through sex reassignment surgery with the full support of her parents. She is now a beautiful 23-year-old model who aspires to become a stylist. Her’s is probably the happiest among all the stories as her family was always there by her side.
In a striking contrast, Kritika’s life before coming out was completely different from Taksh’s. Kritika was severely bullied for her effeminate nature as a young boy. She was so depressed, in her youth, that she considered committing suicide. The discrimination and insults got so bad that she had quit her studies. Her parents were also unsupportive. But she decided to take charge of her own life and started the transition process at the age of 18. Thankfully, she is now legally married to a person who knows her past and loves her. However, no one else knows about her past.
Though the life of these people changed when they decided to undergo sex reassignment surgery, it is not a rosy process. Before getting a transiting surgery to become a woman from a man one has to go through Psychiatric counseling and Hormone treatment. Moreover, the surgery is an expressive procedure and it starts with the development of breasts. The next step includes removal of penis and creation of a vagina.
There are many men who became women after sex-change surgery and there are more who wants to go through the same. It is about time we understand that one’s sexuality is not something for which they should be discriminated. Don’t you think so? Let us know in the comments below.
