Maulana Sajid Rashidi, president of the All India Imam Federation, has once said that a woman can show her face only to her husband, and that cricketer Irfan Pathan clicking a selfie with his wife, is an ‘un-Islamic’ act. He also advised the cricketer to not do anything that is not allowed in Islam, and termed uploading the picture of his wife as shameful.
If you are not able to digest it, then listen to this. During a debate at a Hindi news channel, Rashidi created controversy by saying that poet Goswami Tulsidas has said that the word Hindu was given to us by Mughals. He also called it an abusive word.

However, Sajid Rashidi failed to say anything about where Tulsidas had said that.
The debate was about a Religious Freedom Bill passed by the Rajasthan Assembly in 2008, aimed at banning forcible religious conversions, that is still awaiting the presidential assent. The state has requested the Centre to get the Bill cleared as early as possible. The Bill has provision for prison terms of up to five years. It also contains a clause for cancellation of registration of organisations held guilty of abetting conversions.
