Manjula had married Ritesh Virha in 2013 and had moved to Delhi from Bhopal for her PhD studies. Manjula’s father added that it was made clear before the marriage that Manjula will pursue higher studies and her in-laws had accepted that.

However, according to Daily Bhaskar, the last few messages exchanged between Majula and her younger sister revealed that she was happy to get divorce from Ritesh. One of the messages also allegedly reads that her father-in-law had asked her to return to Bhopal and had asked her to keep quiet if she was beaten to maintain the peace at home.

Manjula’s father also revealed that she was harassed for dowry of Rs.20 lakhs so that Ritesh could start his own business after quitting his job.
