Indian women are proving their mettle in public life, sports, in corporate settings, in space, and even in policing too.

Manjita Vanzara, the ACP of Ahmedabad, has been making headlines with her approach to nab gangsters and criminals. Apart from this, she is also the helping women stand back to her feet and has quickly become a role model for them.

Born into an affluent family in Gujarat, she has many IAS and IPS officers in her family. She is also the niece of IPS officer DG Vanzara whose name was highlighted in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter. Vanzara is being dubbed as the ‘Lady Singham’ for her style of nabbing criminals.

She along with sub-inspector Kirti Lathia roamed around in a notorious area of Ahmedabad donning a burqa. The two brave ladies busted a gambling racket and arrested all 28 accused men.

Although an engineer and a fashion designer by profession, Vanzara decided to make police her career because she wanted to help the society. She is a graduate of NIFT, Ahmedabad and also has B.ED and M.A in English literature. Not only this, Vanzara is a trained Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi dancer. She is married to an engineer from Bellary who works in Doha.

Vanzara is also part of Suraksha Sahaya, an organization which works for the rehabilitation of women caught in the bootlegging trade. Vanzara said that even though she is not making as much money as her counterparts are, she is happy that she is able to bring smile on the faces of people.

We salute her for her courage and work!
