Addressing media personnel in Kolkata on April 19, Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani took a dig at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and said she would “love to” her stance on triple talaq.
Speaking at BJP Headquarters in Kolkata, Irani said,
“It is interesting, since I am addressing you in a state which is headed by a female chief minister, and when we talk about justice for all, I would love to hear what Mamata di has to say about triple talaq.”
Irani though refused to comment on the CBI filing FIR against 12 TMC leaders in the Narada sting case and said it would be “improper” for a union minister to talk about an ongoing investigation.
Though she was quick to criticise Mamata for placing the blame of a CBI probe on the Narada sting case on BJP and said it is like ‘ulta chor kotowal ko dante’ (the guilty scolds the innocent)”.
On April 13 Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had also slammed Mamata Banerjee over her silence on the triple talaq issue. and asked, “Why is she quite”.
