Rajinikanth has a temple to his name in his home state. Our star cricketers have been depicted as avatars of Vishnu, Shiva and whatnot. A bhakt of Congress president Sonia Gandhi built an idol depicting her as a goddess. So why should West Bengal’s “ma”, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, be left behind?
Reports say that the Bengal chief minister has been shown as goddess Durga in one of the many pandals in Chakdah.
This is Mamata Banerjee as Ma Durga:
The life-size, five-and-half-feet idol is made of fiberglass and it shows the CM dressed in her sari and slippers.
Ten hands on Mamata’s idol is shown supporting various schemes introduced by her government including the Singur land return, development of Darjeeling, and the construction of new residential areas in Kolkata. All of this have been set against a backdrop of the state’s map.
Two more hands of hers are folded. The idol is unusual because it has 12 hands. It is reported that the idol will be worshipped by her supporters.
It appears that Didi has become a very popular theme for this year’s Durga Puja in West Bengal. The Bhawanipore Durgotsav Samity pandal shows a lady in white-and-blue-border sari offering flowers at the deity’s feet.
According to a report, the lady in white sari bears a resemblance to Banerjee but organisers themselves are not commenting on it.
