In a major disaster in Himachal Pradesh this afternoon, at least eight people were killed and 10 others were injured after a building, adjoining the historic Manikaran Sahib Gurdwara, caved in due to a massive landslide, reports NDTV.
While eight bodies have been extricated, some people are feared to be still trapped under the boulders, confirmed Deputy Commissioner of Kullu Rakesh Kanwar. The district administration is working with the Gurdwara authorities to locate and identify the bodies.
Some eyewitnesses have claimed that the dead could be more than 10 in number as a large number of people had taken shelter in the building.
A huge portion of the three-storey building virtually collapsed and people ran helter-skelter. The locals and the Gurdwara management immediately swung into action and started rescue operations.
Those injured have been admitted to a zonal hospital at Kullu and the condition of seven of them is stated to be serious.
