Some time back, photos of Ranbir and Mahira Khan bonding over a smoke had gone viral. People raised a hue and cry as if this is a prohibited activity and Mahira became the victim because of her religion, country, and status of a single mother.
Trolls, abuses, and opinions, all targetted Mahira in an insensitive way.
Now, Mahira Khan finally spoke about this controversy during the promotions of her new film, ‘Verna’. She said,

Through the times of turbulence, through the joys, through the ups and downs, through the mistakes we make and all the success we get, let nobody… nobody’s opinion define who you are, And if anybody defines who you are, let it be yourself. Because including me and all the women out there, we’re all worth it.
She also added that though she has learned her lesson, what she was doing was a very normal thing.
It is my personal life and it is very normal for a boy and girl to hang out. This one incident has taught me a lot. Nowadays, media is not only present at events but everywhere. So, I have learned from it (the incident).I am a very careful person otherwise. People ask me that I do not do this (smoking) in the film. I say I do not want to. Why should I do anything to show the world?
