Life is not a bed of roses, and for an acid attack victim, it is a life-long curse to live. Throwing acid on someone is one of the most heinous crimes that one can do and, very often, the victims are ridiculed more than the accused. Their life becomes a living hell, and their hopes for a better future are shattered in an instant.
This is how 26 year-old, Lalita Ben Bansi, felt when her cousin threw acid at her over an argument.
She underwent 17 surgeries to hide her scars. Walking through this painful path, she had lost hope of finding love, until she met a guy named Ravi Shankar via a wrong number. Lalita says,
Who would have thought an acid attack and 17 surgeries later I would find love. But it happened. And it all started with a wrong number.
After that, they constantly stayed in touch for two months and got to know each other well. It was Ravi who initially started liking her, and made her believe that she deserved a better life. Ravi says,
I liked her from the beginning. I had to only convince my mother to accept my choice. I had to make Lalita believe that she too had the right to a better life.
The couple tied the knot on Tuesday in Thane court. Actor Vivek Oberoi met Lalita at her wedding function and promised to pay for her surgeries. Post her wedding, her treatment will continue.
