Dera Sacha Sauda chief, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, has been convicted of rape by a special CBI court in Panchkula, Haryana. For almost over a decade this monster walked among us and we couldn’t do anything because the judiciary was still investigating. However, the Indian judicial system restored our faith after convicting Ram Rahim Singh in the 2002 rape case.

As soon as the verdict came out, the followers of this so-called Baba went on a rampage, creating havoc and destroying public property. The property of the self-acclaimed Godman has been seized by the court to meet the expenses of the destruction that his followers caused.

But, none of this would have happened if an anonymous Sadhvi wouldn’t have gathered the courage to expose this Baba?

In 2002, a letter from an anonymous Sadhvi reached the then-PM and exposed the inhumane doings of Ram Rahim Singh. Her letter exposed that the Baba ki gufa that Dera Sacha Sauda has, is not just baba’s resting place but that place is also used to exploit innocent girls who go there because of family pressure. The same families who have blind faith in Ram Rahim, the families who were outside the court in Panchkula creating havoc after the court’s verdict.

Dera Sacha Sauda’s reputation was exposed in 2002 after the baba was taken into custody. In the letter that the Sadhvi addressed to the then-PM, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and other top investigative authorities of the country, she wrote that she was a resident of Punjab and an arts graduate. She reached the Baba’s Dera because her family had faith in him.

According to the source, the letter by the Sadhvi states,

In the past there have been “hundreds of girls” with her in the Dera who have been continuously being subjected to, and are also “being raped by the Chief of Dera – Maharaj Ram Rahim. further stated that she along with other 40-45 girls was serving the Dera and had become a sadhvi due to her parents’ aspirations. About two years after she became a sadhvi, she was called into the ‘gufa’ (cave) of Ram Rahim, his residence where he was watching television with a  revolver along his side.

On the second page of the letter, the Sadhvi claims that she was told by Ram Rahim that she was his property. And that he could kill her. He said her family has intense faith in him and would never dare go against him.

The sadhvi’s letter claims that she was threatened and raped by Ram Rahim repeatedly. She also wrote that she was shattered and then it became known to her that there have been other women as well who have been victims of sexual exploitation, and there will be, after her as well.

In the letter, the Sadhvi wrote about the plight of hundreds of girls who became the victim of Ram Rahim Singh’s horrific deeds. Mentioning a girl from Sangrur, the Sadhvi wrote that she was threatened with guns by sevadaars of the Dera when she shared her plight in her neighborhood after leaving the Dera.

The woman was anonymous and CBI had a hard time tracing her. However, in 2007, they finally traced two victims to file a charge-sheet against Gurmeet Ram Rahimbaba. The High Court investigated the matter for almost 15 years and finally gave a conviction stating that Ram Rahim Singh is guilty of all the charges.

The woman who gathered the courage to fight this monster deserves a salute!
