Lalita Babar Breaks Her Own National Record, Enters World Athletics Championships Final

In the 2015 World Athletics Championships in Beijing, India’s Lalita Babar broke her own national record in the 3000m steeplechase on Monday. She has qualified for the final, reports NDTV.

She clocked 9:27.86 to finish fourth in heat number two and qualified for the final round as one of the six fastest timers outside three top finishers in each of the three heats.

Her own earlier national record time was 9:34.13

 



The 26-year-old reigning Asian champion, who hails from Maharashtra, trains under Nikolai Snesarev. She has also won a silver in this event in the 2014 Asian Games.

She is the first Indian to have qualified for the final round of the 3000m steeplechase event in a World Championships.
