Kumar Gaurav was a popular actor of the ‘80s. His debut film ‘Love Story’ released in 1981 and was a huge blockbuster. Kumar Gaurav became a superstar overnight. Thereafter, quite a few of his films such as ‘Teri Kasam’, ‘Naam’ and ‘Kaante’ did very well at the box office. This established his image as the ‘Lover Boy’ of Bollywood. Born on July 11, 1960, Kumar Gaurav’s real name is Manoj Tuli. He is married to Sanjay Dutt’s sister Namrata Dutt.
For the uninitiated, Kumar Gaurav is the son of the legendary actor of old films, Rajendra Kumar. Rajendra Kumar died of cancer in 1999 and by that time Kumar Gaurav’s career in the film industry was already finished. But not many know the reason behind his ruined prospects in Bollywood.
The glitzy world of Bollywood is such that it might be easy to attain fame and success, but keeping it is certainly a challenging thing to do. This is exactly what happened with Kumar Gaurav as well.
Soon after a couple of his films did well, he became a swellhead and refused to work with new actresses. Producer Dinesh Bansal had signed a new actress Yasmeen for a film titled ‘Shirin Farhad’ opposite Kumar.
But when he came to know that he has been cast against a new actress, he refused to do the film. The producer tried to convince him a lot but he was unrelenting.
Four years later, Raj Kapoor started auditioning actresses for ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ in which Yasmeen got selected. At the time of her debut in Bollywood, Yasmeen changed her name to Mandakini. The film was a super hit, making Mandakini too, a big star.
Then there came a time when the tables turned and no popular actress including Mandakini was ready to work with Kumar Gaurav. Since Mandakini was getting offers for many other films, she took her revenge from Gaurav by refusing to work with him!
