Small Town Boy To Mumbai Indians Team, Kulwant Khejroliya – A Rising Star of Indian Pacers

IPL has gained a coveted position in Indian cricket as the sporting bonazza has many star-studded teams competing to come out as winners than normal cricket. The Mumbai Indians team, which boasts of cricketers like Harbhajan Singh, Lasith Malinga and Mitchel Johnson, is no exception really – until you come across Kulwant Khejroliya.

Kulwant Khejroliya maybe a small celebrity today as a team member of Mumbai Indians squad, but his road to success was not a smooth ride.

Hailing from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan, the pacer had left his home for Delhi to take up the sport professionally. Being from a very humble background it was a daring gamble to take. Khejroliya’s father Shankar Singh is owner of a small grocery shop in the village and his mother Saroj Kanwar is a house-wife. He has a sister and an elder brother, who works with the state roadways.

Cricket being a passion, he took to pursuing professional cricket without informing his parents. All they knew was that their son had gone to Ahmedabad to join a friend’s transport business.

As luck would have it, one day while the 25-year-old was net practicing with Delhi Daredevil’s, selectors of the Delhi team noticed his abilities. Impressed by his deliveries, the left-handed pacer was roped in as an extra member of the squad for the Vijay Hazare National One Day Tournament.

Since then, it has been a dream rise for the young cricketer. His balling skills combined with a steady pace of 140 kmph soon caught the attention of the selection committee of the Mumbai Indians. He was picked up for a base price of Rs 10 lakh in the IPL 2017 auction.

In a squad full of experienced pacers, like Australian cricketer Mitchell Johnson, Khejroliya will sure be grabbing the opportunity to display his werewithal and gain experience as an rising Indian pacer.
